East Bay High School (Gibsonton) has 12 current teachers who are East Bay graduates. The alumni say they want to give back to the school that helped shape their lives and positively impact students’ futures. The school also opens up their new wing this year, adding 20 new classrooms.
Dawson Elementary School (Riverview) is the district’s only new school this year. The nearly 100,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art school will relieve nearby Boyette Springs, Collins, Sessums, Stowers, and Summerfield Elementary Schools. The school is named after Warren Hope Dawson, a practicing Tampa attorney and civil rights leader who worked for decades to desegregate schools in Tampa, will be on hand to welcome students on the first day of school.
Limona Elementary (Brandon) is starting a new theme this year, G.A.M.E on! (Growth And Mindset Equal Success). As part of the theme, this summer the staff has been busy painting walkways with different colors symbolizing Florida colleges (USF=green, UF=blue, FSU= burgundy, FAMU=green/orange, etc). The goal is to give students a sense of pride, purpose and perseverance. They will learn about the importance of working hard towards college and that it's never too early to focus on that path.
