HCPS Appoints Communications and Media Officer

Tampa, Fla. – (April 20, 2017) – The Hillsborough County School Board approved the appointment of Teresa Lantigua Peterson as Communications and Media Officer at the April 4, School Board meeting.
Teresa Lantigua Peterson is responsible for enhancing communications, both digital and non-digital, with key stakeholders including students, parents, teachers, district staff and the community.
Through proactive strategies, Peterson will strive to connect with stakeholders and provide a clear vision of student achievement as a top priority, as well as consistently share good news of successes happening in the classroom.
In Peterson’s role, she will also help district leaders have a better understanding of trends, tools and best practices that can improve departmental and school communication initiatives. She has also been tasked with leading efforts to communicate the strategic plan for Hillsborough County Public Schools which is a five-year process of school improvement to Prepare Students for Life. The strategic plan has four main priorities: increase graduation rates, enhance communication with stakeholders, build strong culture and relationships and build a foundation of financial stewardship.
Peterson previously served as Senior Director of Communication for the Diocese of Orlando where she oversaw various communication initiatives, including a biweekly newspaper, social media channels, video and radio production, live streaming and various apps. She also oversaw training of diocesan leaders to learn best communication practices and to stay current with the changing landscape of internal and external communications.
Peterson also has a background in television and print journalism. She has worked at WFLA-TV, WTSP-TV, WTVJ-TV and was also a freelance writer for the Tampa Tribune, Tampa Bay Business Journal and the Orlando Sentinel.
