Tampa, Fla. – (November 3, 2016) – Hillsborough County Public Schools will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the district’s new Propane Fueling Station. The ceremony will be held on Friday, November 4, at 1 p.m. at 4251 South Avenue, Tampa.
Currently, fifty district buses run on propane and are fueled at the county propane filling station. The transportation department has purchased an additional 40 propane buses this year.
The ability to fuel our propane buses at our own facility will save our bus drivers time and save the district money.
Propane autogas is economical, costing on average 40 to 50 percent less than diesel. Less maintenance is required on autogas buses due to the clean burning properties of the fuel.
The district hopes to capitalize on a grant from the Florida Department of Agriculture. The Natural Gas Fuel Fleet Vehicle Rebate provides eligible applicants a rebate for natural gas fleet vehicles purchased or leased for a minimum of five years, on or after July 1, 2013. The maximum rebate is up to $25,000 per purchased or leased vehicle, not to exceed 50 percent of eligible costs. The state has earmarked $2.4 million dollars for both the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 fiscal years. Applicants may receive up to a total of $250,000 per fiscal year on a first-come, first-served basis.
