Tampa, Fla. – (October 24, 2016) – Please join Hillsborough County Public Schools as we partner with NOPE of Hillsborough, the Tampa Police Department, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for the 6th Annual NOPE Candle Light Vigil on Thursday, October 27, at 7 p.m. at Hillsborough High School.
NOPE (Narcotics Overdose Prevention & Education) holds this vigil each year to honor the lives lost due to drug and alcohol related incidents, to honor those who have lost a loved one to accidental overdose death and to help those suffering from the disease of addiction.
It will be an emotional night as loved ones are encouraged to share stories about their family members or friends. Participants are also encouraged to bring photos to include on the Memorial Wall. More than 500 photos adorn the Memorial Wall showing young people who have lost their lives due to drug or alcohol related causes.
The event will begin in the Hillsborough High School auditorium and then move to the front lawn. Hillsborough High School is located at 5000 N. Central Avenue, Tampa. The viewing of the Memorial Wall will start at 6 p.m. with the vigil and ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. School Board members are expected to attend.
The goal of NOPE is to reach the community through prevention and education. NOPE offers presentations to Hillsborough County Public Schools middle and high school students throughout the year.
