Tampa, Fla. – (June 22, 2016) – Even though school is out for the summer, students have several opportunities to receive nutritionally balanced meals as Hillsborough County Public Schools sponsors the annual “Summer Food Service Program for Children”.
Hillsborough County Public Schools has three different programs for students:
The Extended School Year program offers students breakfast or lunch at no cost at schools that provide summer school programs. Monday through Thursday, from June 13 through August 5, all children 18 years old and younger can come to an open school, regardless of whether the child is enrolled in summer school.
For the fifth year now, HCPS is also bringing food into the migrant communities through our Movin’ Meals “food buses”. Four retired and renovated district school buses are delivering meals into neighborhoods offering breakfast and lunch. Students can eat on the air-conditioned buses.
The district has also rented thirteen refrigerated trucks to deliver box meals to community sites with summer programs. The sites include YMCA programs, HCC summer camps for kids, WIC locations, three libraries, and all the parks and recreation centers.
Hillsborough County Public Schools is committed to providing nutritionally balanced meals to children during the summer vacation when school breakfast and lunch are not available.
