Enrichment Summer Scholars Program (ESSP)

The Enrichment Summer Scholars Program is a 4-day fee-based summer enrichment program for exceptionally talented students who attend Hillsborough County Public Schools. Students who are eligible to apply for ESSP are those who were notified by their school that they are qualified for the district’s Elementary Talent Search during 2017-18.

Students attending the program have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a 4-day enrichment program focused on problem-based learning with other students who share the same talents and interests. The unique program includes minds-on experiences not typically offered through the regular school curriculum. Throughout the program, students will be guided by top-notch Hillsborough County teachers through technology-infused gifted learning experiences that will result in the creation of products that will be showcased at the end of the program.

Through the ESSP experience, students develop 21st Century Learning skills that will help them prepare for future success including:

  • Information and Communication Skills
  • Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills
  • Interpersonal Skills and Self-Directional Skills
  • Digital-Age Literacy Skills

The ESSP Program includes:

  • ESSP3: Discovering Our Next National Treasures
    (For students who have completed grade 3 and will enter grade 4 during the coming school year.)
  • ESSP4: VIP Kids: Voices Inspiring Purpose
    (For students who have completed grade 4 and will enter grade 5 during the coming school year.)
  • ESSP5: Ready Robots to the Rescue!
    (For students who have completed grade 5 and will enter grade 6 during the coming school year.)

What was the Enrichment Summer Scholars Program (ESSP)?
The Enrichment Summer Scholars Program is a 4-day fee-based summer enrichment program for exceptionally talented students who attend Hillsborough County Public Schools.

  • ESSP 3 is for students who have completed grade 3 and will enter grade 4 during the coming school year.

Who may attend?

  • Only Hillsborough County Public School students who were notified by their school that they were qualified to participate in the district’s 2017-2018 Elementary Talent Search are eligible to attend ESSP.

  • Students may attend ONE of two sessions

  • The cost for the 4-day program is $154.
  • The cost includes all program materials.

How do I enroll my child in ESSP?

  • Registration for ESSP: Registration
  • Payment is through the district-approved Dwolla payments system
  • To create a Dwolla account, go to www.dwolla.com/register/customers
  • To expedite the application process, you may create a Dwolla account BEFORE ESSP registration opens on March 21.
  • Note: Registration is NOT complete until payment is received through the electronic Dwolla payments system. The payment MUST be received within 3 days of filling out the online ESSP registration form./li>
  • Parents who do not have a bank account may pay by money-order. The money-order must be mailed so that it is received at the payment location within 3 days of completing the online registration.
  • If payment is not received within 3 days of completing the online registration form, the registration may be denied to open the spot for other interested families.
  • Registration opens on March 21, 2018 at 8:00 a.m.

How do I pay for ESSP Program?

  • Payment is through the district-approved Dwolla payments system. The button to send your one-time payment to ESSP via Dwolla will appear on your screen AFTER you complete the ESSP online registration.

  • To expedite the payment process, create a Dwolla account BEFORE ESSP registration opens.
  • Acceptable forms of payment are: electronic payment through Dwolla or money order.
  • Credit cards are NOT accepted for payment.

Are scholarships available?

  • For ESSP 2018, scholarships are available ONLY through school-funded resources. Please contact the principal at your child’s school to find out whether any scholarship opportunities are available.

Is transportation provided?

  • Transportation is NOT provided.
  • Drop off is from 7:50-8:00 a.m.
  • Pick up is at 2:30 p.m.
  • Caution: NO crossing guards are on duty during the summer months to assist students who walk to the school site.
  • Note: Students may NOT be dropped off before 7:50 a.m. as no ESSP supervision is available prior to 7:50 a.m. Students MUST be picked up at 2:30 p.m. as no ESSP supervision is available after program hours.

Is lunch provided?

  • Lunch is NOT provided. Snacks are NOT provided.
  • Each student MUST bring a snack, a bag-lunch, and drink daily.

Is daycare available beyond the program day?

  • Daycare is NOT offered as part of the ESSP program; however, some ESSP sites may offer the H.O.S.T. program for after-care.
  • Parents interested in daycare beyond the program day (8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) should contact the H.O.S.T. program directly to determine the availability and cost of care. H.O.S.T. may not be available at all sites.
