Achievement Schools Letter

Dear Hillsborough County Public Schools parents and guardians,

I wanted to let you know about some positive changes happening in our district next school year that will impact your child’s school. A new system of support called “Achievement Schools” will be in place to give students every opportunity they need to succeed. Early on in this process, you may have heard this called the “Achievement Zone.” Instead, we’re going to use the term Achievement Schools to make it clear that there are no major boundary changes or student moves expected.

Achievement Schools will be supported in a way never seen before in our district to level the playing field for students. Our district will work to put its best leaders and teachers into our schools with the highest needs and will aim to provide the right resources to schools for sustained student success. We will make every effort to create an innovative and collaborative learning environment that will center around a culture of high expectations for students.

Every school and every student deserves to be set up for success. Here’s how we’ll make that happen: Equity – it's about giving students what they need. We’ll also steer support to the right schools, listen to people in the community to shape our work and raise expectations.

Achievement Schools have been selected based on performance data. The Achievement Schools support will stay in place for a school until it earns a “C” grade or better for three straight years.

Everyone succeeds when students achieve, and we need your help. Our district will be gathering feedback from parents, teachers, principals, union and district leaders and community partners in the coming weeks. Please let your school’s principal know if you or your child would like to play a role in the parent/community advisory committee or student advisory committee.

Your school will be receiving Achievement Schools support next school year.

Thank you for your support of our Achievement Schools – Transforming Schools, Transforming Lives.

Assistant Superintendent of Educational Leadership and Professional Development
