Everyday Hero 2015-2016

everyday hero

Bud and Brenda Hoshaw are the proprietors of The Red Hawk Ranch Native American Retreat Center and The Native Way shop. Bud, whose Native name is “Red Feather,” is of Menominee descent. His wife, Brenda, is of Cherokee and Cheyenne descent; her Native name is “Quahneah.” In 2002, they were called to purchase a property in Wimauma, Florida that they later learned is rich in Native history. Along with local academics with Native bloodlines, Bud has avidly researched the history of land formerly known as the Paracoxi Providence and the culture of its early inhabitants, the Timucan and Calusa Tribes.

Bud and Brenda consider themselves stewards of the land and culture. They have opened their property to the public in hopes that people will have a safe place to find beauty in the natural world and to connect with the Native culture. In addition to monthly Native circles, a Pow Wow and Native Arts and Crafts Festivals have been hosted at the property. Most recently, Red Hawk Ranch was the beautiful backdrop to the Title VI End of Year Celebration.
