School Choice Attractor Programs

Students applying for CTE Attractor programs at both the middle and high school level must meet proficiency in either Math or Reading on standardized test scores to be considered for an offer.

The Center for Gifted Studies is a program for first through fifth grade students located within Boyette Springs Elementary School. The Center is designed for identified gifted students who seek a full-time gifted program offering advanced level learning experiences and opportunities for talent development.

The Center for Gifted Studies offers a high quality and distinctive program specifically for students who meet Florida’s Gifted eligibility requirement. The Center utilizes the research-supported Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) approach whose goals are developing talents, providing a broad range of enrichment experiences, and providing advanced learning for children based upon interests. The approach emphasizes engagement and the use of enjoyable and challenging learning experiences and results in the development of motivation, creativity, advanced thinking skills and collaboration.

A student must meet one of the criteria listed below for this application to be processed.

  1. My child is currently enrolled in a Hillsborough County Public School (HCPS) and is classified as Gifted in Florida and has a current Florida Gifted Educational Plan (EP) or a current Florida Individual Education Plan (IEP) that includes Gifted Services.

  2. My child is currently in a private school, home schooled, or resides out of county and is classified as Gifted in Florida and has a current Florida Gifted Educational Plan (EP) or a current Florida Individual Education Plan (IEP) that includes Gifted Services.
    • A copy of the EP must be submitted to complete this application.

  3. My child is in the process of a Gifted evaluation through HCPS. My child has been individually screened as potentially gifted and has been referred for a Gifted evaluation.
    • A signed copy of Form SB34502 (Request for Multidisciplinary Team Gifted Evaluation/Informed Parent Consent for Initial Gifted Evaluation) must be submitted along with the application. Form SB34502 can be obtained from the student’s attendance area school.

  4. My child has a qualifying score on an individually administered standardized test of intelligence (IQ test).
    • A copy of the formal evaluation report from the licensed psychologist must be submitted along with the application.

  5. My child is currently in Kindergarten and has begun the process of Gifted identification through HCPS. My child is awaiting individual screening as potentially gifted.
    • A signed copy of Form SB34500 (Notice and Consent for Individual Screening) must be submitted along with the application. Form SB34500 can be obtained from the student’s assigned district school.

Boyette Springs Elementary School

The Academy of Finance equips students with the knowledge to excel in the financial marketplace. The program is a member of the National Academy Foundation, which offers students a curriculum in financial markets, banking, investments and financial planning. Students participating in this program will have the opportunity to obtain a paid summer internship, work in the student-led Suncoast Federal Credit Union branch, participate in job shadowing field trips and compete in DECA events.

Brandon High School

The Advanced Academy of Film Production and Design prepares students for career opportunities in the dynamic world of digital media and film creation. Students will learn the fundamental principles of 3D and digital video creation, including perspective, lighting and rotation, as well as video camera operation, video editing, lighting concepts, audio recording, electronic news gathering, field production, and scriptwriting. Students will prepare for career opportunities in areas such as Texture Artists, Motion Capture Technicians, Multi-Media Artists, Broadcast Technicians, Video Camera Operators, Video Editors and Producers.

Spoto High School

The Advanced Placement Scholars (APS) program is designed to provide students with multiple AP course offerings taught by specially trained teachers. Students also get a variety of AP courses relating to personal interests and strengths, a program coordinator for increased student attention, special preparation for AP exams, an APS parent organization, a summer APS/AP camp program, an AP Scholars Program diploma seal, transcript notation, and special recognition at graduation.

King and Chamberlain High Schools

Aerospace and Astronautic students will use mathematics, natural sciences, engineering and technology through authentic projects and problem solving activities to develop an understanding of all aspects of flight. The skills of individual leadership and self reliance will be developed through team activities and competition involvement in the Technology Student Association (TSA) and Civil Air Patrol (CAP) helping students prepare for success in the most rigorous high school program.

Aerospace involves all aspects of aeronautics (working with aircraft) and Astronautics focuses on working with spacecraft. Aerospace and astronautics technicians conduct research, design and develop vehicles and systems for atmospheric and space environments, specialize in one of many areas such as aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics, orbital mechanics, guidance & control systems, and vehicle piloting.

Madison Middle School

Bioengineering is the application of the life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics and engineering principles to define and solve problems in biology, medicine, health care, agriculture and other fields.

Bioengineering is a relatively new discipline that combines many aspects of traditional engineering fields such as chemical, electrical, medical and mechanical engineering. Using engineering software and related technologies, this program allows students explore a variety of authentic bioengineering projects and problems while integrating and incorporating the essentials of STEM education in all courses.

Buchanan Middle School

Modeling and Simulation is described as one of the key enabling technologies of the 21st Century. Monroe Institute of Technology’s Modeling & Simulation program curriculum and course offerings are specifically designed to create leaders possessing 21st Century Skills. This innovative curriculum provides students with an understanding of the systems, processes, and tools utilized in engineering, science, health care, business, education, training and many other disciplines. Students engage daily in inquiry-driven, hands-on, technology rich lessons that foster innovative thinking and skilled communication. Modeling and Simulation class topics include: Computer Coding, Engineering Design Cycle, Software Development Cycle -Lego™, MindStorm EV3 Robotics, Future Cities Competition, USF Bridge Building Competition, Flight Simulators, Drones, Microsoft Office Skill Building, Game Theory, Basic App Development Aided Drafting Programs, and 3D Printing.

Monroe Middle School

The STEM Academy at Greco is part of a nationwide effort to enhance the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning and interest of students from an early age. Our mission is to promote student excitement, focus and achievement by providing a relevant, rigorous, and unique learning experience through linking curricula to create real-world applications. The program includes multiple high school credit courses in 8th grade. This gives our students the opportunity to begin high school in AP credited classes. Our alumni have gone on to participate in some of the most advanced programs high schools have to offer in a variety of focuses from the International Baccalaureate Program to Robotics Academies and KAPS.

Greco Middle School

Pre-KAPS is a liberal arts-based honors program at Greco Middle School. It is designed to prepare students for Advanced Placement coursework at the high school level, specifically for the King High School Advanced Placement Scholars (KAPS) course of study. Students in grades 6 and 7 are prepared to take 8th grade honors courses which include the following: Integrated Physical Science Honors, Algebra 1 Honors, as well as foreign language, and at least one high school level elective course. Students in this program are also invited to participate in visits to college campuses. This is paired with an opportunity to join a mentoring program that follows students through high school and into college.

Greco Middle School

Robotics is a branch of engineering that involves the development, design, manufacture, and operation of robots. Robotics uses electronics, computer science, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and bioengineering to enhance the quality of life for humans.
