HCPS promotes a welcoming and supportive environment that celebrates and values diversity and respect for all students and its employees.
HCPS is committed to preparing students for life by offering equal and equitable educational opportunities and activities for all students. Instructional materials and programs will ascertain the contributions from a variety of resources to include various cultures, races, ethnic groups, and genders. High quality diversity training will equip staff to better meet the needs of diverse learners.
GOALS AND STRATEGIES
Through conversations and engagement with district leader’s faculty, staff, students and community partners, the Office of Diversity developed 2016-2017 goals and strategies for moving Hillsborough County Public Schools toward its goal of inclusive excellence.
- Collaborate with district divisions to help reduce the number of suspensions by school demographics.
- Partner with leaders of district divisions and community agencies to help increase the graduation rate of all students, including African-American and Hispanic students.
- Improve diversity in district/school staff by assisting with recruitment and retention efforts.
- Assist the Office of Compliance on issues concerning fairness and equity in education and the workplace.
Culture & Relationships
- Provide diversity, equity, and inclusion training to district and school leadership to enhance services to students.
Internal Process and Financials
- Work with the Office of Supplier Diversity in providing relevant training to registered Small Business Enterprises, including women and minority owned businesses.

In celebration of Black History Month, the LEAD (Learn, Empower, Advocate, Dream) student contest winners will be recognized and awarded at the 14th Annual Black Heritage Banquet Gala. The event is on Friday, February 10 at 6:00 PM at the Trinkle Center- HCC, Plant City campus, 1206 N. Park Rd, Plant City, Florida 33563.

On behalf of the Hillsborough County Public School Board, Superintendent Mr. Jeff Eakins, and Mr. Fred Hearns, Chair of the Black History at the Fair Community Committee, we would like to thank you for your participation in the 2nd Annual Florida State Fair ‘Salute to Black History’ Exhibit and Performance at the 2017 Florida State Fair from February 9-20.
This event was possible because of the collaboration of many schools and community organizations. Our school district recognizes the importance of educating students, families, and communities around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) will be participating in the 2017 Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic 5K Run, Saturday, February 25th. The District’s particpation will bring awareness to the strategic priority of increasing our graduation rate to 90% by the year 2020 (90BY20).

Time: 10 am-12 pm
DISTRICT-WIDE “OLYMPIC PARENT PROGRAM”
Highlights – Parent Conference – Kick-Off Olympic Parent Program: – The kick-off for the Olympic Parent Program will include; training sessions, strategies on academic growth, parent engagement and much more. This spectacular event will be held at the Tampa Convention Center. A member of the Full Service Team or a school social worker will contact you to pre-register, provide more information and answer any questions you may have regarding the parent conference and/or program. All participants will have the chance to earn Olympic points to pick up an Olympic kit/bag filled with hygiene products and other family items! Once you are completely registered, you will receive an Olympic ticket to attend. Please be sure to keep your ticket in your possession since you will need it to be a participant. This event opportunity is based on a first come, first serve basis. In addition, there will be No child care provided.

Location: Tampa Convention Center at the Convention Center
Time: 10 am-12 pm
The symposium includes exciting workshop sessions for students. The session will engage them in relevant topics and teach them strategies to overcome obstacles. The objective being to help them create a winning/achieving mindset and attitude. Students will hear statistical data, in student friendly language, to help them more clearly understand what is happening in the district and across the nation. They gain information and skills to help them become a part of and invested in changing the trajectory of education.
