The School Board of Hillsborough County, Florida, met for recognitions Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at 5:30 p.m., in the School Board Auditorium, 901 East Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa, with Acting Superintendent Jeff Eakins, and Board Members Doretha W. Edgecomb, Sally Harris, Carol Kurdell, Cindy Stuart, and Susan Valdes present.  Chair S. Valdes presided.

Approximately 200 people were in the audience, including other school district personnel.

Call to Order:  meeting called to order at 5:30 p.m.

Moment of Silence and Pledge of Allegiance:  Moment of silence followed by Vice Chair Edgecomb leading in the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag. 

Board – Roll Call:  Chair S. Valdes said five Board Members present.  April Griffin and Melissa Snively were absent.

Recognition of the 2014 Suncoast Credit Union Foundation Scholarship Recipients (Human Resources Division)

Holly Mooneyhan and Althea Walker, Department Managers, Application Center and Teacher Recruitment.  Dr. Walker highlighted the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation Scholarship program.  She introduced Cindy Helton, Executive Director of the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation, who congratulated the winners.  Dr. Walker and Ms. Moneyhan introduced this year’s recipients:

Melissa Morgado, Supervisor, World Languages K-12, highlighted the contest and introduced Bruce Busch, German Teacher, Alonso High School.  Ms. Morgado recognized the winners.

Recognition of World Languages State Competition Winners for 2015 (Curriculum and Instruction Division)

Melissa Morgado, Supervisor, World Languages K-12, highlighted the contest and introduced the Spanish Teachers at Tampa Bay Technical High School – Annette Suarez and Camila Cremata.  Ms. Morgado introduced the student winners and presented each a certificate.  She also introduced the parents and administration who were present.

Recognition of Hillsborough County Public Schools Head Start Program for Receiving the National Head Start Association Quality Initiative Program of Excellence Award and Their 50th Anniversary (Academic Support and Federal Programs Division)

Evelyn McFadden, Supervisor gave brief highlights, read a letter she received from a Head Start parent, and recognized the staff members from the Hillsborough County Public Schools Head Start Program that were in the audience.  She also introduced Maria Caracciola, Director of Early Childhood and HOST Programs.

Recognition of Positive Behavior Support District Model Schools (Student Services Division)

Nakeba Finlayson, Supervisor highlighted the item and introduced the following principals and coaches.  She recognized district people who support the PBS initiative:  Doretha Edgecomb, Holly Saia, Director of Student Services, Deborah Badertscher, and Troy Loker, Rti Facilitator/School Psychologist.  Ms. Badertscher and Dr. Loker support our schools in implementing PBS.  She then recognized the four schools listed below.
