The American Association of School Administrators announced the list of four finalists. The prestigious award honors school leaders throughout the country measured in the following areas: Leadership for learning, Communication, Professionalism, and Community Involvement. Earlier this month, Elia was honored as Florida’s Superintendent of the Year.
MaryEllen Elia was appointed Superintendent of HCPS in 2005. A lifelong educator, she began her career as a social studies teacher and has worked for Hillsborough County Public Schools for 28 years. HCPS is the 8th largest district in the nation with more than 205,000 students.
In celebration of Black History Month, Hillsborough County Public Schools is proud to announce the LEAD (Lead, Empower, Advocate, Dream) Student Contest. Leaders impact us in so many ways. We encounter leaders at home, in our schools, religious institutions, on the playing field, and many other places throughout our community. The LEAD contest challenges all students from grades 3-12 to create an artistic interpretation expressing how he or she has been inspired by a local black leader.Categories are:

All entries must be submitted by the close of business (5:00pm) on Friday, January 9, 2015.
Cook It Up, our annual student recipe challenge is back! 3rd - 8th graders can submit a healthy recipe for a chance to win over $400 in prizes and get their recipe on the school lunch menu for the entire district. Submit your healthy recipe by Monday, December 29th. Ready, Set, COOK!
